The press service of the UAVC has appealed to the Prime Minister of Ukraine and other officials, requesting the formation of a working group to protect Ukraine's national interests following potential mirror measures by Moldova that could ban the import of potatoes, vegetables, and fruits from Ukraine. This measure could severely impact Ukraine, as Moldova is the only export channel for Ukrainian potatoes, and the country's potato cultivation area has expanded by 13-15% this year. Additionally, Ukraine has started importing potatoes from Moldova for the first time since independence, totaling 438 tons in 2020 and 468 tons in the first three months of 2021. The UAVC believes these actions could be hostile and a violation of international free trade rules.
