In the 2020/21 season, Ukraine saw a sixfold increase in apple exports to sub-Saharan Africa, reaching a record 630 tons, which while being less than 4% of total apple exports, signifies a positive trend. The number of receiving countries increased from two to nine. The new market in Africa is noted for its high product prices and prepayments, but also presents challenges like long supply times and the need for quality control in hot climates. The 2021/22 season saw Kenya joining the list of African importers of Ukrainian apples.
