Georgia's new hazelnut season is off to a disappointing start, with export data for August showing a significant decrease in both volume and prices compared to the previous year. Exports of hazelnut kernels in August were just 0.5 thousand tons, the lowest for August in at least nine years, and the average export price fell to $4.70/kg, the lowest since 2014. The top three export destinations were Germany, Armenia, and Russia. The surge in exports of inshell hazelnuts, which was observed last season, did not continue this season. Factors such as quality issues with the Turkish harvest and high demand for quality hazelnuts could impact the market in the coming months. EastFruit will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on a monthly basis.
