The Argentine Association of Direct Sowing Producers (Aapresid) issued a new red alert this Tuesday for resistant weeds. Specifically, the entity reported the confirmation by researchers Gabriel Picapietra and Horacio Acciaresi, from INTA Pergamino; and Marcos Yannicari, from the Integrated Experimental Farm Barrow, of a multi-resistance in a biotype of Lolium multiflorum (ryegrass). In concrete terms, the case that appeared in the locality of Mariano Benítez, in the northern Buenos Aires district of Pergamino, offers immunity to applications of glyphosate and active ingredients from the three families of ACCase inhibitor grass killers. In its report, Aapresid recalled that ryegrass is one of the most challenging autumn-winter-spring grass weeds in temperate climate production systems. Its high genetic variability and crossbreeding capacity favor the appearance of resistant biotypes, a process that in Argentina has been escalating in complexity for over a decade. Previously, it ...
