Record high world prices for malting barley have been reported by RMI Analytics, with Canadian barley experiencing the most significant increase due to crop damage. This is contributing to a shift in market activity, with some buyers like China reducing purchases due to the high prices. Meanwhile, the 2022 harvest in Europe is demanded, but at lower prices than 2021. The growing deficit of malting barley does not suggest a decline in prices in the near future, especially with the ongoing competition for high-quality grain. Ukraine sees an increase in the premium for malting barley over feed barley, amidst export challenges and increased demand due to rising corn and feed wheat prices.
