In W18 in the oats landscape, as of May, 2.32M hectares of grain and leguminous crops, including 132.2K hectares of oats, were sown in Ukraine. The sowing campaign of early grain and leguminous crops in the Zhytomyr Oblast region of Ukraine began two weeks earlier than the average multi-year term, with the sowing area of spring oats expected to increase in 2023. Meanwhile, in Russia, more than half of the designated area in the Belgorod region had already been planted in the first days of May, with oats grown on 4.7K hectares or 60% of the total area. As of May 5, 24.6K hectares of oats were sown in the Saratov district of Russia according to operational data from the regional ministry of agriculture.

In the US, 49% of the oat planting is complete, 3% behind the five-year average, while 33% of planted oats have emerged, up 5% from the previous week but behind the five-year average by 2%. Oats were harvested in Sweden in 2022 for an estimated 735K MT with an average yield of 4.78MT/ha. In Canada, oats, lentils, and dry peas are expected to be sown on 1.24M hectares in 2023, 22.4% fewer than in 2022, due to the high stock levels from 2022's harvest. With a 15.7% decrease from the five-year average, this would be the lowest oat area in five years. Lastly, in Argentina, the National Seed Institute (Inase) stipulated that starting on January 1, 2025, all seeds of the species oats, Avena sativa L. and Avena byzantina K. Koch marketed in the Argentine territory must be of a controlled class. This measure was implemented by Resolution 216/2023.
