In W19 in the oats landscape, up to 60% of the oat planting process in the US is completed, 4% below the five-year average. In Ohio, 79% of oats are planted while 49% of the oats sown have already emerged, although the planting slowed due to scattered rains and lower temperatures. Oat output is anticipated to significantly decrease in Canada in the 2023/24 season due to reduced acreage in Saskatchewan. According to FAS, production will drop by 21%, from 5.2MMT in 2022/23 to 4MMT in the 2023/24 season. This is mainly due to weak returns against competing crops, and high inventories on farms which are expected to encourage farmers to grow competing crops such as barley instead of oats. In the first half of May, Ukraine planted more than 3.5M hectares of spring crops, including 141K hectares of oats. Farmers in Transcarpathia, Ukraine, have already completed sowing oats, spring wheat, and barley in a 2.5K hectare area. Meanwhile, in the Lviv region, early cereals (wheat, barley, oats, and peas) were sown on 14.9K hectares (87.1% of the forecast). The Ukrainian oat harvest in the 2023 season is expected to decline to 350K MT from 390K MT in 2022. Lastly, Brazil's output of grains, legumes, and oilseeds is projected to reach 302.1MMT by 2023, a rise of 14.8% YoY. However, a 6.5% decrease is anticipated for oats.
