In W25 in the almond landscape, it was reported that in the United States, the California Governor has introduced an Infrastructure Package to address critical challenges and maintain California's global socioeconomic leadership. The package focuses on meeting climate goals, improving the electric grid, enhancing water resilience, and modernizing the transportation infrastructure of almonds. The CEO of the Central California Almond Growers Association (CCAGA) discussed the almond industry in a podcast episode. CCAGA, as the world's largest almond huller/sheller, has faced supply chain issues that could have long-term effects on the industry. These issues have resulted in a decline in almond consumption and demand. While the supply chain situation is improving, general consumption has been impacted by inflation, and global economic conditions present further challenges.

On the other hand, Australia has allocated AUD 7 million to a project that aims to boost the export growth of its almond industry. With a significant increase in exports over the past decade, the industry plans to expand by increasing almond exports by at least 50 thousand tonnes in the next three years. The program, led by the Almond Board of Australia, will focus on market access and development activities such as participating in trade shows, promoting the health benefits of almonds, and engaging with trade stakeholders. This investment demonstrates the industry's dedication to sustained growth and meeting the rising global demand for Australian almonds. The almond market is experiencing low commercial activity, demand, and a short supply. In Spain, the Lonja de Córdoba and Mercamurcia report decreases in almond prices, while the Lonja del Ebro sees stable prices. The estimated almond production for the 2023 campaign is projected to be 49% above the average of the last three years, with an increase in the productive area. However, adverse weather conditions and drought pose uncertainties for the final harvest. In California, United States, almond shipments have declined in May compared to the previous year, with lower demand from markets like India, China, and Europe. Shipment increases were reported in Japan, South Korea, France, and the United Kingdom. Lastly, India has lifted retaliatory tariffs on the United States (US) almonds, apples, and walnuts, as the two nations resolved disputes at the World Trade Organization. The removal of the tariff is expected to restore and expand market opportunities for US agricultural producers and manufacturers. The agreement highlights the significance of the US-India bilateral relationship in economic and trade ties.
