Peru's fresh grape exports experienced a significant increase in 2023, reaching 664.37 thousand metric tons (mt) valued at USD 1,795 million. This marked a 16% year-on-year (YoY) rise in volume and a 28% YoY increase in value compared to the 2022 season. The average price increased by 10% YoY to USD 2.70 per kilogram (kg). Peru has expanded its fresh grape exports to over 55 countries, with significant gains in Asian markets, particularly Taiwan and Japan, where prices were notably high. Specifically, the US saw a 21% YoY volume increase and a 30% YoY value rise.
In 2023, Egypt set a new record for table grape exports to Saudi Arabia, surpassing the previous year's volume within the first 10 months alone. From Jan-23 to Oct-23, Egypt shipped 33 thousand mt of table grapes to Saudi Arabia, marking a 16% YoY increase compared to the 2022 season. This volume nearly doubles the average for the previous five years, indicating a significant uptick in Egyptian exports to the Saudi market since 2018. While the peak period for grape supply to Saudi Arabia typically runs from May to October, recent trends suggest Egyptian products may extend. Saudi Arabia remains a primary destination for Egyptian table grapes, with notable differences in import volumes compared to other countries like the United Kingdom (UK), the Netherlands, and Germany. Despite competition from other countries like Chile, Turkey, Italy, South Africa, and India, Egypt has steadily increased its market share in Saudi Arabia, reaching 45% YoY from Jan-23 to Oct-23, a significant rise from the 11% YoY in 2018. This share is expected to decrease by year-end as the Egyptian supply season winds down.
