California's almond production for 2024 is estimated at 2.80 billion pounds (shelled), a 7% decrease from the May forecast but 13% higher than last year's harvest, according to the USDA. The Nonpareil variety, which constitutes 39% of the state's total crop, is projected at 1.10 billion pounds (shelled), 17% above last year's deliveries. Favorable weather during the flowering period contributed to increased production, despite challenges from warm, wet weather in April and multiple heat waves in June and July. Dry conditions and milder temperatures in May aided crop development, and almond harvesting is expected to begin as planned.
