A recent article highlights the urgent need for government action and the introduction of a direct payment system for beekeepers in South Korea, following a mass death of bees and the loss of vital wheat sources. The Democratic Party of Korea and the Korea Beekeeping Association have convened a discussion at the National Assembly Members’ Hall in Seoul, where experts like Professor Sa Dong-chun and Lee Seung-hwan underscored the importance of beekeeping and proposed separate legislation for a direct payment system similar to forestry, aimed at protecting beekeeping farms and recognizing the industry's public value. Additionally, the article emphasizes the need to expand honey plant cultivation and support forest owners to grow these plants, with the Korea Forest Service and the Beekeeping and Hanbong Association collaborating to identify suitable honey plants for bee rearing. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs is currently conducting research on this direct payment system, with expectations for findings to be released soon.
