Abrupt slowdown in the export of Italian cheeses

The dynamics of the volumes of individual cheeses, underlines Assolatte, the Italian Association of Industries in the sector, show general negative results on the historically most exported products: -31% for Grana Padano and Parmigiano Reggiano, -16% for Gorgonzola, -39% for the Pecorino Romano. Mozzarella exports were also negative, albeit slightly: -5%. If in the countries of the European Union the losses were considerable (-7.6 volumes), outside the European borders the contraction was very heavy. The two main extra-EU destinations of our cheeses, the United States and the United Kingdom, recorded a decrease in volume, respectively, of 56 and 26%. The progressive decline linked to the closures of the food service and the climate of fear and international mistrust have made the suffering of exports chronic.
