Farmers in central and southern Taiwan sustained the heaviest crop and livestock losses and equipment damage caused by the rain which was brought by a tropical depression and seasonal winds that have battered Taiwan since Aug. 6, the COA said. Kaohsiung City suffered the greatest losses of any area in Taiwan, racking up NT$58.97 million in losses, or 18 percent of total losses, as of 5 p.m. Monday, COA data showed. Yunlin County was next with estimated losses of NT$54.18 million, or 16 percent of nationwide losses, while Nantou County, Chiayi County, Pingtung County, Tainan City and Changhua County, reported estimated losses of NT50.70 million, NT$45.18 million, NT$45.04 million, NT$41.04 million and NT$28.96 million, respectively.
