The article outlines a new initiative by Thailand's Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, aimed at encouraging farmers to cultivate economic crops that are well-suited to their regions and promise high market demand and returns. This project, currently under pilot in Chiang Mai Province with Hom Thong bananas, involves strategic zoning, higher market prices, and financial support, including agricultural insurance. The initiative's goal is to boost the income of farmers by providing them with the means to produce more marketable crops. The ministry is also exploring partnerships with large supermarkets like Beisia in Japan and is considering expanding the project to include other economic crops and involve the Young Smart Farmer group. The ministry's strategy includes using modern agriculture, innovative technology, big data, and Agri-Map Online to assist farmers in planning and selecting profitable crops, with an emphasis on sustainable and circular economy practices.
