The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) in Peru has identified 133 agricultural products with a high import potential to China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao, collectively valued at over US$53 billion. Among these, 20 primary products, such as fresh grapes and blueberries, hold a nearly US$10 billion potential import value. In 2023, Peru's agricultural exports to these regions reached US$677 million, accounting for 60.8% of its total agricultural exports to the Asia Pacific. The article emphasizes the strategic role of the Port of Chancay in potentially reducing shipping times to China by up to 17 days, which could significantly enhance Peru's agricultural export capabilities by improving trade logistics and facilitating the diversification of its export basket through quicker phytosanitary agreement processes.
