The Indonesian government has recently relaxed investment permits in the alcoholic beverage sector, as outlined in a new presidential regulation. This move aims to stimulate local investment in the industry, despite concerns about the country's rising alcohol consumption and imports. Over the years, Indonesia's alcohol imports have seen a significant increase, with 2018 marking the highest value at US $ 40.44 million. Wine was the dominant import, accounting for US $ 18.65 million. The majority of these imports originated from the European Union, with wine making up 14% of Indonesia's total alcohol imports in 2019.
