According to recently published data from Rosstat, the most consumed food product in Kostroma Oblast in 2024 was milk and dairy products. The average consumption volume was 234 kg per person. This is 3.7% less than the average for the Central Federal District (243 kg) and 7.5% less than the national average (253 kg). The residents of Voronezh Oblast consumed the most milk and dairy products in the Central Federal District—307 kg, while the residents of Tula Oblast consumed the least—150 kg. From 1990 to 2024, each resident of Kostroma Oblast consumed 167 kg less milk and dairy products per year. However, from 2005 to 2024, the level of consumption increased by 10.9% and became the highest in the last 20 years. The recommended consumption rate for milk and dairy products is 322 kg per person per year according to the 2016 order of the Ministry of Health of Russia.
