Wholesale prices for Gala apples in Ukraine, Moldova, and Poland have hit record highs for this time of year, with standard quality apples priced between $0.51 and $0.53 per kg. Premium export quality apples are even more expensive due to reduced supply and quality issues from unusual weather. In Ukraine, prices have jumped 36% in under a month, while Moldova and Poland have seen increases of 11% and 6%, respectively. Producers' hesitance to sell quickly, despite challenges like the conflict in Ukraine, is driving the price rise. This trend is atypical for Eastern Europe, where apple supply usually peaks now, indicating possible further price hikes in the winter-spring period.
