Argentina accelerates corn planting and may bring forward supply to the international market

The 2025/26 corn planting in Argentina is ahead of the historical average. According to information released by Imea, sowing reached 6.20% of the total estimated area of 7.8 million hectares by September 17—an advance of 2.40 percentage points in one week. This faster pace is attributed to the good soil moisture conditions, which have been taken advantage of by producers before the arrival of new precipitation. The Buenos Aires Grain Exchange estimates that by November, about 52% of the area could be planted—exceeding the 46% recorded on average in the last five crops. This advancement could have important effects on the international market, with part of the crop being harvested and made available earlier for export.
