Argentina has marked a milestone in its agricultural exports by obtaining Senasa certification for the first garlic seed shipment to South Africa, weighing in at 1,016 kilos. This event is significant for the country, especially for the garlic industry in the central region, as it opens up a new market and reinforces Argentina's position as a major garlic producer and exporter. With a production of approximately 148 thousand tons annually across 16,000 hectares, Argentina ranks 14th in volume and 10th in harvested area globally. It exports about 70% of its production, making it the third largest exporter after China and Spain, with Brazil as its primary export destination. This move aligns with Argentina's strategy to ensure certification and traceability in productions and to consistently seek new markets, as led by its Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Julián Domínguez.
