India is the top banana producer globally, accounting for over a quarter of global production, but only 1% of global exports. The country's successful first shipment of fresh bananas to the Netherlands has sparked interest in tapping into the potential for significant export growth, with a predicted increase to 1 billion dollars in the next five years. The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) is working with other stakeholders to develop specific maritime protocols for bananas and explore new export markets such as the United States, Russia, Japan, and Germany.
