Judge Murilo Silvio de Abreu has rejected the request for a 60-day grace period on debt payments from coffee trading companies Atlântica Exportação e Importação SA and Cafebras Comércio de Cafés do Brasil SA, owned by Montesanto. This request was made in the face of challenges due to a significant increase in global Arabica coffee prices, caused by concerns over damage to the next crop from drought. The companies owe about R$530 million (US$87.8 million) in margin calls to various companies, and the initial decision can be appealed.
