Last Thursday, LTO Nederland and the Animal Welfare Foundation organized a breakfast session on the covenant "Steps towards Animal-Friendly Livestock Farming," which was concluded last year. A broad representation of the House was present, including VVD, CDA, BBB, PvdD, and Group Markuszower. The covenant involves various sectors, the government, the market, and civil society organizations. The goal of the covenant is to enable steps towards an even more animal-friendly livestock farming by 2040. So that not only the livestock farmer is in charge, but also the market and the government. After an opening by LTO Nederland chairman Ger Koopmans and Animal Welfare Foundation director Ellen Bien, Elbert Roest (chairman of the covenant), Gemma Willemsen (Animal Welfare Foundation), Amber Laan (NAJK), and Kees de Jong (LTO Poultry Farming) addressed in various presentations what is needed to make the covenant a success.
