The Budget Committee of the Chamber of Deputies in Italy has approved an amendment reducing excise duties for small craft breweries, up to a production of 10,000 hectoliters, providing a 50% discount; for those producing up to 30,000 hectoliters, a 30% discount; and for those producing up to 60,000 hectoliters, a 20% discount. This measure, supported by Coldiretti and Consorzio Birra Italiana, aims to bolster the Italian agricultural beer supply chain, benefiting both the environment and employment. The sector, with around 1200 breweries in Italy, has been facing challenges due to increased production costs and the effects of climate change, leading to a significant reduction in barley production.
