Between January and March 2024, Cambodia saw a significant increase in its cashew nut production, reaching 474,000 tons, with the majority being exported to Vietnam, resulting in earnings of 543 million USD, a 13% rise from the previous year. The price for fresh cashew nuts in Cambodia surged to approximately 1.25 USD/kg by April 2024, the highest in 15 years. This price hike is largely due to the strategy of drying and storing cashew nuts to sell at higher prices later, which, while increasing domestic prices, has led to a decrease in exports, especially to Vietnam.
