During 2021, the price of habanero chili paid to farmers in the Yucatan Peninsula fell by 13 percent, according to records from the Agrifood and Fisheries Information Service (SIAP) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader). The latest figures reported indicate that the pepper from Campeche was the most consumed in different regions of the country. For January 2021, the average price paid to peninsular producers was 24.12 pesos. The highest was for the peasants of Yucatan: 26.85 pesos per kilo of chili and, the lowest, that of the Campechanos, which was 21 pesos. In the northern region of Mexico, peasants obtained up to 40 pesos per kilogram in Monterrey, Nuevo León. Also, at the beginning of 2021, San Francisco de Campeche was the city where the most expensive habanero was sold in popular markets, since the kilogram was sold to the consumer at just over 86 pesos.
