The Honourable Heath MacDonald, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, traveled to China to meet with high-ranking government officials and key leaders of the Chinese and Canadian industry, in order to facilitate new business opportunities and promote Canada's high-quality agricultural and agri-food products. Minister MacDonald spoke at the inauguration of the Canadian Meat Sector Defence Office, where he highlighted the legacy of trust that the sector has built with Chinese consumers. He emphasized the value of this new office, which will provide the sector with a local presence in China to better work with local intermediaries in ensuring access for Canadian meat products. The inauguration of the Canadian Meat Sector Defence Office is partially funded, along with other sector defense activities, by the Agri-Marketing Program of the Canadian Ministry of Agriculture and Agri-Food (AAFC).
