Carrefour has planned to distribute 1,300 tons of artichokes in Spain in 2021, marking a 50% increase in purchases, primarily for export. The supermarket chain intends to sixfold its export volume from the previous year, selling 500,000 kilos in countries like France and Belgium. In Spain, Carrefour will continue to sell 800,000 kilos per season. Purchases of artichokes for these operations are facilitated through Socomo, Carrefour's fruit and vegetable subsidiary. The company sources artichokes from various regions in Spain, including Benicarló, Murcia, Alicante, Granada, and Tudela, and collaborates with local producers like San Isidro Benihort for over 20 years. Artichokes are known for their nutritional benefits and are a staple in the diet for their low caloric content, high water content, and fiber.
