Cashew farmers in Ghana are facing challenges that prevent them from fully benefiting from the cashew crop. These challenges include a lack of knowledge and resources to add value to cashew apples, market fluctuation, limited access to agricultural financing, rising costs of farm inputs, and an unfavourable land tenure system. Despite these issues, there has been little action taken by authorities to address them. The farmers are currently relying on the sale of raw cashew nuts, which fail to cover the increasing costs of production. Research has shown that cashew apples can be processed into high-value products, but farmers in Ghana are not exploring this opportunity due to a lack of support and resources. Additionally, farmers are struggling to access affordable agricultural credit, which is hindering the expansion of cashew plantations and limiting potential production and economic growth.
