As Vitaliy Sydorenko, director of one of the leading Ukrainian fruit and berry export companies, Yarofruit LLC, told EastFruit, previously there was not much commercial attention to cherries. "The situation in this segment has changed dramatically due to high prices. From the first days of the current season, purchase prices for fresh cherries from the population for processing reached record levels, namely up to 80-90 UAH/kg ($1.93-2.17/kg). This instantly activated the population, and cherries for sale began to be collected by those who had never done so before. Mass cherry collection by the population led to the formation of one of the largest frozen berry batches in Ukraine over the past decade, which processors did not forecast before the start of the current season," the expert said.
