Tridge summary

On April 29, the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture announced the approval of the drought-tolerant event, called HB4, developed by the Argentine company. The procedure had been presented on October 21, 2016, and it is the first Argentine event that receives authorization from China. In 2015 Bioceres obtained the approval of HB4 soybeans in Argentina; however, its sale to China had been conditional on the authorization of the Chinese government. The approval allows the importation and commercialization of the HB4 event and oilseed derivatives. Apart from Argentina, HB4 soybeans with drought tolerance are already approved in other countries with the world's largest production of soybeans, including the United States (August 2019), Brazil (May 2019), Paraguay (2019), and Canada (2021). All these countries represent approximately 85% of global production. It is worth mentioning that the genesis of this soy comes from a work carried out by the researcher Raquel Chan, who found the drought resistance gene in the sunflower.
