The Tea Research Association (TRA) of India has developed a climate-smart seed variety, 'TSS 2', to combat the effects of extreme heat and climatic factors on tea production. The new seed stock is designed to withstand high temperatures and produce high-quality crops. This comes at a time when tea production is down by 80 million kgs in 2024 due to climate change. The association has also introduced microbial formulations, approved by the Central Insecticides Board, to reduce the dependence on pesticides.
