In response to the economic challenges faced by Colombian coffee growers, including falling international prices, rising production costs, and the El Niño phenomenon, the Colombian government has announced compensation for growers equal to 80% of the price of coffee beans per kilogram, the maximum allowed by law. This announcement was made by the Minister of Agriculture, Jhenifer Mojica. President Gustavo Petro, addressing the Coffee Conference, discussed the difficulties and potential within the coffee industry, pointing out issues such as inequality, declining production and exports, and the effects of privatization. Petro affirmed the government's dedication to transitioning towards an economic model that favors more productive industries, ultimately benefiting the Colombian economy.
