In 2020, the consumption and spending on fresh fruits and vegetables in Spanish households significantly increased by 10% and 21.8% respectively, reaching 4,611 million kilos and € 7,881 million. The most consumed fresh fruits were citrus fruits, followed by exotic fruits, and pome fruits, while the consumption of red fruits and stone fruits decreased. The consumption of fresh vegetables surged by 12.5% in volume and 16.4% in spending, amounting to 2,955 million kilos and € 5,741 million. The group of fruits and flowers, which includes tomatoes and cucumbers, saw the highest increase in turnover and volume.
