[Livestock and Fisheries Newspaper=Livestock and Fisheries Newspaper] The crisis in South Korean agriculture has now become a reality. The rapidly declining farming population, severe aging, and increasingly serious climate change are threatening the roots of our agriculture. In fact, as of 2023, the proportion of farm owners aged 65 and over stands at 66.4%, and the farming population is steadily decreasing. The arable land area available for farming has also shrunk from 1,824,000 hectares in 2005 to 1,528,000 hectares in 2022. With rising average temperatures and frequent extreme weather events such as heatwaves and heavy rains, the instability of the agricultural environment is growing. In this way, the sustainability of agriculture is under threat.
