The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a surge in the demand for ginger, making it a profitable opportunity for farmers and suppliers in Ghana. The country has experienced a significant increase in the producer price of ginger from 2019 to 2021. However, local dealers in Ghana are not showing much interest to meet the global demand. With China, the largest ginger grower, losing part of its old harvest due to heavy rainfalls, other producers like Peru, Brazil, and Thailand are under pressure to meet the demands. The prices for ginger in Europe and the U.S are around 40-45 Euro and US$50 respectively for a 12 kilogram box. The ideal climate in Ghana makes it suitable for large-scale cultivation. However, a ginger processing facility in Gyankoba, a farming community, has been out of use for many years.
