Czarnikow reduces estimate of global sugar surplus

International analysts from Czarnikow have reduced their estimate of the global sugar surplus for the 2026/27 crop to 1.1 million tons, amid the potential impact of the El Niño phenomenon on sugarcane production in India, Thailand, and Brazil, reports the Russian Sugar Producers' Organization on its website. According to the Czarnikow report, the forecast for the global sugar surplus for the 2026/27 crop has been reduced by 300,000 tons compared to the previous forecast made in March. This figure is also significantly lower than the 3.4 million tons predicted in February. Global Sugar Estimates Review for 2026/27 In the publication, the Organization highlights Czarnikow's assessment that global sugar production for the 2026/27 crop is currently estimated at 180.4 million tons, 200,000 tons less than the previous forecast made in March.
