In 2024, 144 cattle were reported stolen in Ireland, with 127 being beef cattle and the rest from dairy herds, according to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. The majority of the stolen cattle were over 30 months old and were reported missing from farms in 11 counties, with Mayo having the highest number of suspected thefts. So far, 12 of the stolen cattle have been recovered. The department urges owners to report missing or stolen cattle to their local Regional Veterinary Office and An Garda Síochána, and to complete an AIM24 form.
