The Firth of Forth's efforts to revive its European flat oyster population have seen remarkable success, with an 85% survival rate among the re-introduced oysters, as reported by Heriot Watt University and Restoration Forth. This initiative, backed by local communities and significant funding, aims to restore seagrass habitats and oyster populations, hoping to improve water quality, store carbon, boost biodiversity, and serve as a nursery for young fish. The project, supported by various organizations and funding sources, including the Scottish Government’s Nature Restoration Fund, has already restored 4 hectares of seagrass meadows and plans to restore more oyster beds, marking a significant achievement in marine conservation and ecological restoration.
