In the country's grain balance, wheat and barley are taking an increasing share. The role of rye in the structure of grain production and consumption is gradually decreasing, reflecting general market trends and changing preferences of processors. Thus, in recent years, Russia has seen a trend towards a reduction in the sown areas and gross harvest of rye. In the 2025/26 season, it is estimated to be approximately at last year's level—slightly above 1 million tons. Meanwhile, the overall demand for grain in the country is being met by other crops, primarily wheat and barley, which are taking an increasing share in the grain balance. After a sharp rise in prices in the 2021/22 season, when they reached 11,000–14,000 rubles/ton excluding VAT, the rye market has stabilized. In the 2023/2024 season, average prices were in the range of 7,000–8,000 rubles/ton, and in the 2024/2025 season—8,000–11,000 rubles/ton.
