Russia's Deputy Prime Minister, Victoria Abramchenko, has suggested the possibility of cancelling the export duty on sunflower seeds, a move that will be evaluated by various ministries and agencies. This proposal comes at a time when sunflower seed prices in Russia have significantly dropped due to decreased demand and poor storage conditions, with prices hitting a low since November 2022. The Ministry of Agriculture has expressed the need for selling sunflower seeds at high prices and against the artificial restriction of sales. The export duty on sunflower seeds was set at 50% or $320 per ton, whichever is higher, from July 1, 2021, and has been extended until August 31, 2023.
