New outbreaks of contagious bovine dermal nodules, avian influenza, and bluetongue are straining Spanish livestock production at the start of autumn, without overlooking the evolution of bluetongue which is also significantly impacting sheep. In the case of contagious bovine dermal nodules, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) has confirmed six new outbreaks in the Catalan province of Girona. These cases are within the 20-kilometer protection zone already established since the first outbreaks, according to the latest public report from the Ministry. MAPA has already completed all necessary procedures and sent the information required by EU regulations to the European Commission so that the Official Veterinary Services of the Generalitat de Catalunya can immediately start the vaccination campaign against the disease.
