Approximately 20 farms have voluntarily discarded a specific variety of cherry tomatoes (HS2106 variety or TY All-Star) following an investigation into a potential link to food poisoning-like symptoms. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs temporarily restricted shipments from these farms and conducted tests, which revealed high levels of lycoperoside C in the problematic variety. This substance is a glycoalkaloid found in immature fruits during tomato maturation. No bitter components were detected in regular tomatoes. All growers have agreed to prevent the distribution of the affected variety to ease consumer concerns. The Ministry plans to promote the consumption of regular tomatoes through special discount events from mid-April to early May.
