France is experiencing a decline in pig prices, with the trend expected to continue due to outbreaks of ASF in Germany's pig farms and intense competition from low-priced European meats, particularly Spanish pork. The inability of packing plants to pass on price increases to large retailers and a decrease in the number of pigs slaughtered due to seasonal lows and slow demand have also contributed to the price drop. Despite the end of Covid restrictions and expansion of collective catering, domestic demand in France has not increased and has been unable to make up for the loss of the largest outlet for many European exporters, China. The overall trend in pig prices in Europe has been downward, putting many farms in danger.
