The Korea Customs Service has designated dried onions for the preliminary tax review system from October 1, in response to suspicions of low-priced declarations. This system will prevent the import of Chinese dried onions, as the average declared import price by domestic importers was only $0.2 to $0.5 per kg, compared to $2~3 per kg in China. The custom's move aims to eradicate illegal imports, strengthen domestic competitiveness, and improve the supply and demand situation. The decision follows investigations that revealed over 2,500 tons of imported dried onions were suspected of being low-priced from January 2021 to March 2022.
