Duty on sunflower seed exports led to an increase in sunflower oil production in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan’s export duty on sunflower seeds of 20%, but not less than EUR 100 per ton, introduced in early 2023, helped provide local oil extraction companies with raw materials. According to the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerbol Karashukeyev, oil production in the country has increased by 62% since the introduction of restrictive measures, and prices on the domestic market have decreased by more than 8% in 2023. “At the same time, the export of sunflower oil last year amounted to 229.4 thsd tonnes, which is 1.7 times more than in 2021,” the report says.
