The European Commission (EC) has urged Serbia to remove import taxes on milk and dairy products, claiming that the taxes were imposed without consulting the EU. The EC argues that Serbia's trade restrictions, including the recently introduced import fees on milk and dairy products, violate EU regulations. In response, Serbian dairy farmers are demanding higher levies on certain cheeses to protect local production from imported competition. A significant annual decline in livestock production, around 2-3%, has been observed in Serbia for many years, as highlighted at a Regional Chamber of Commerce of the West Backa District meeting. An upcoming agricultural census in Q4 2023, supported by the EU, aims to provide up-to-date data on Serbia's agricultural sector.
