In April 2022, Georgia set records in the import and export of various fruits and vegetables, including strawberries, avocados, apples, onions, peeled hazelnuts, and watermelons. Apple imports reached 1 thousand tons, with exports hitting a record 4.7 thousand tons, primarily to Russia. Avocado and strawberry imports also saw increases, with strawberries exclusively from Turkey. Onion exports decreased but remained high, with Armenia being the sole importer. The dependence on imported onions was over eight times that of exports. Potato imports were at the lowest in the last five years, mainly from Germany and the Netherlands. Shelled hazelnut exports saw a significant increase, with a wide range of deliveries including EU countries, Russia, the Middle East, and America.
