Egypt's customs data shows that out of an total volume of 10.5 million tons of wheat imported, 8 million tons came from Russia (74%) and 1.5 million tons from Ukraine (14%). Egypt is trying to reduce wheat imports and replace them with sorghum and corn to lower the cost of subsidized bread. The state-owned Egyptian grain operator, GASC, has signed a large direct agreement for the monthly supply of 510,000 tons of Black Sea wheat from November 2024 to April 2025.
