Egyptian onion: calm in Europe and demand in the Middle East

The season of Egyptian red onions officially starts on April 20. However, the market currently presents a mixed picture: while red onions are just getting ready to come out, the demand for yellow onions (whose season started on February 15) has turned out to be noticeably weaker than last year, reports EastFruit citing FreshPlaza. According to Mohamed Ahmed, the export manager of Al Gamal, from the perspective of volume and quality, Egyptian farmers have nothing to complain about. The onion harvest this year is generous, and the supply meets any requests. A similar picture is expected with red onions, which will appear on the market in about ten days. The difficulty is observed precisely on the demand side. The exporter notes: "We are recording sluggish demand in Europe due to high self-sufficiency in production.
